What's the fuss?

UNICEF Aotearoa's Young Ambassador Programme is all about creating a platform to show your voice on the issues that matter to you. Here and around the world. Apply now!

We want to help create an accessible and meaningful way for young people to champion their internationally recognised rights here in Aotearoa.

There’ll be opportunities to engage in advocacy activities across the country and around the world as part of our global whānau. Learn more about UNICEF over here.

Here's the deal!

Each year we’ll support up to eight Young Ambassadors aged 17-24 across the country, to build their confidence in speaking up for what’s important to the next generation.

You’ll travel across New Zealand to meet and understand what matters most to other rangatahi while representing your individual communities and cultures.

As part of the programme, you’ll also receive specialist training and tons of support in wider youth engagement.

Supported by UNICEF Aotearoa, you’ll then be able to raise the important issues with the key decision-makers.

Advocacy Trainingg

You’ll get specialist training to become an effective advocate and lobbyist, understanding how to navigate the NZ government and political system, and enact real change for young people.

Government Relations

You’ll be given opportunities to talk and meet with ministers at Parliament to raise those big issues and champion the voice and dreams of young people in Aotearoa.

Networking Opportunities

As an ambassador, you’ll have the opportunity to meet the big decision-makers, business leaders, politicians and other rangatahi working within the national and global youth sector.

Media Training & Paid Travel

You’ll receive media training to become an awesome spokesperson and engage with media (journalists, radio, TV, online).  All travel costs will be covered whenever you’re on the move as part of your role.

SOUND LIKE YOU?

It doesn’t matter what background, skill set or experience UNICEF Aotearoa's Young Ambassadors come with. It doesn’t matter where you were born or went to school, how high your grades are or even what colour your hair is.

We’re looking for people who’ll champion the rights of rangatahi and speak out on the social and environmental issues important to them. And we wanna help whoever that might be, to empower other young people to find their own voice and speak out on what they feel strongly about too.

BURNING QUESTIONS!

Can I apply if I'm still in school?

Yeah! Anyone between the ages of 17-24 can apply. If you’re under 18, you’ll need to get a parent or guardian to sign a permission form here.

Do I need to be based in a certain location?

No way! We’re open to anyone living in Aotearoa who wants to show their voice.

Is this a paid opportunity? Do I have to pay for travel?

Nah, sorry. But UNICEF will cover all travel and associated costs as part of the role.

How much time is required from me?

3-4 hours per fortnight, but there’ll be opportunities for travel that might mean you’ll be needed more from time to time. Kinda cool, though.

Think we've missed something?

No worries. Send an email with any other questions you might have to: youngambassadors@unicef.org.nz
